Welcome to the Frost Flute Studio. We are a supportive and energetic group of flutists who come to study at the University of Miami from all over the world. Students in the flute studio can receive undergraduate degrees in instrumental performance, music therapy, music education, and music industry, while Master of Music, Doctor of Musical Arts, and Artist Diploma degrees are available to graduate students.

Students take weekly lessons, studio classes, and have the option to take extra topic classes, such as technique, pedagogy and literature, baroque flute, and orchestral excerpts. Students are also able to play in the Frost Flute Ensemble and chamber music.

The Frost School of Music Department of Instrumental Performance supports three large ensembles: The Frost Symphony Orchestra, Frost Wind Ensemble, and Frost Symphonic Winds. All students are required to participate in large ensembles throughout their degree. In addition to the large ensembles, students may audition for Ensemble Ibis, Frost’s New Music Ensemble.

Prospective Students

Prospective students are invited to visit campus any time during the year. Studio class is held on Fridays at 2:30 pm and is open to anyone who is interested in applying to Frost. Students are also encouraged to attend a rehearsal by one of the school’s leading ensembles, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gerard Schwarz, and the Frost Wind Ensemble, conducted by Robert Carnochan.
